Senator Mitch McConnell of Kentucky was seen leaving the Senate chamber this week with his right hand raised in what this newsroom, after review, has identified as the YVL sign.
Somethings we can say about the frogman is that he has worked in that building since 1985. On his 83rd Birthday, to the delight of many, Mitch announced he's not seeking re-election and that his final term runs out in January.
Four days back from the August recess, and this is where we are.

In the absence of official comment, we've taken some time to ask the team "What is Mitch's favorite Playboi Carti song?". Every staff memeber has their own opinion so we've voted on the best from each album.
Playboi Carti (2017) — "Magnolia"
Nobody's first Carti song is a deep cut, and we are not going to insult the man by pretending his was. "Magnolia" is the door everybody walks through. It was inescapable in 2017, it is inescapable now, and there is a non-trivial chance he heard it in an elevator, filed it away, and never mentioned it to anyone for nine years.

Die Lit (2018) — "Long Time (Intro)"
There is no other pick. He has been a United States Senator since the first Reagan administration. He led his caucus for nearly two decades and became the longest-serving Senate leader in American history before stepping down from the role in 2024.
Forty-one years in one building. The track is called "Long Time." We are not going to belabor this.
Whole Lotta Red (2020) — "Vamp Anthem"
The hand sign is the tell. YVL stands for Young Vamp Life, and a man does not throw up the vamp sign on his way out of a chamber without having done the reading.
Whole Lotta Red was the album everybody hated on release and revised their position on about eight months later, which is a career arc the senator is likely to find relatable, and "Vamp Anthem" is its thesis statement.
